Backlink Like a Pro With our Quick and Easy 9-Step Guide

How to approach backlinking like a pro.

When done properly, backlinks can be a brilliant way of improving your website's search engine ranking, for some it's even their number one method! For backlinking to be truly effective you need to successfully pursue high quality links and our guidance is designed to help you do just that. Outlined below is a comprehensive list of our best advice on how to approach backlinking and gain more visitors to your website.

1. The broken-link building method

Search for broken backlinks featured on websites in your content area that are of high quality. Once identified, cantact the webmaster about their broken link and suggest replacing it with your own website link instead. By doing them a favour chances are they'll return the deed so this technique is definitely worth the effort!

2. The skyscraper technique

This has three parts:

First, identify a piece of content that’s relevant to your website and has lots of backlinks directing you to it.

Second, create a better version of that content. Write something that's of better quality and is more informative and engaging. Once finalised, upload this content onto your website.

Third, reach out to the webmasters who have links to the original content and suggest replacing it with the link to your piece. With a better article on offer chances are some of them will bite.

3. Create an infographic

This is a popular method for backlinking as infographics are simple to do and easy to share.

You will first need to identify a topic in your field and then gather information and data on that topic. Once you’ve done this you’ll be ready to create your infographic, just be sure to include your website link!

Upload your infographic onto your website and share it to reach even more viewers.

4. Write guest articles

Get your website to reach a new audience by writing articles for other websites. You can include your website’s link in the articles which will increase your site’s traffic and help to improve your reputation and following within your field.

5. Keep an eye on your competitors

Check out what kind of content your competitors are posting on their websites. This will not only give you new ideas for your own content but you can use this as an opportunity to write a better version and steal your competitors’ backlinks.

6. Promote yourself

Shouting about your own content is a simple but effective way of building backlinks.

Email webmasters and ask if links to your website’s content can be included on their website. If their email is not visible contact them through a different source, for example over social media or LinkedIn.

7. Write a testimonial

More often than not you can exchange a backlink for a testimonial.

One way to do this is to write a list of all of the products that your business uses, then contact the websites that sell these products. Offer to write them a testimonial for their products with your website’s link included.

8. Donate to a non-profit organisation

This is an easy way to backlink as most non-profit organisations have a list of links to the websites of businesses that have donated to them.

In most instances all you need to do is identify an organisation you’d like to donate to, fill in the amount you’d like to donate and provide them with your URL.

9. Get interviewed

Once you’ve built up a good reputation within your field you’ll find that often others will want to contact you for an interview. Use this as an opportunity to get them to link your website in the interview and promo videos.

If you’re not quite there yet you can reach out to websites looking for interviewees instead. Let them know why you’d be a good person to interview and what knowledge you could share.

Backlinking can be time consuming but it is an incredibly effective way of boosting your website’s search engine ranking and bringing more traffic to your site. We hope that by following our advice building high quality backlinks becomes an easier and more approachable task, helping to save you time and allowing your website to prosper.
