Scam Emails Are Getting Better and Better

As scam emails evolve, staying vigilant against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats is essential.

When scam emails first started popping up, they were laughably unsophisticated. The graphic design was appalling, and honestly, it was a bit embarrassing if you fell for them. We all thought, "Only an idiot would fall for that." But scamming is big business, and scammers have upped their game significantly.

I just received a scam email this morning that looked like it was from LinkedIn. It was a series of emails: the first with a two-factor authentication pin (which I hadn't requested), the second notifying me that my password had been reset, and the third informing me that my account had been closed! Cue panic!

Let me tell you, scammers have started employing decent graphic designers. The emails I received this morning were spot-on with LinkedIn's branding. They even seemed to have cloned the email addresses, making the emails look genuinely like they came from LinkedIn.

The only thing that tipped me off was that these emails were sent to an address not linked to my LinkedIn account. I hadn't received any of these messages on the email account I actually use for LinkedIn.

So, be more careful. Double-check anything that feels like it's trying to scare you. If you feel worried about an email, be suspicious. That's what con artists do—they prey on people's anxieties. And it's not just consumers; businesses can fall victim to scams just as easily. Watch out in the digital space and keep your business protected.
